I have done the code, but it is yet to be used in texi2any now.
In fact, it is not obvious it should be propagated to all the
formats.  For one thing this leads to a walk on the tree which
should be avoided if not needed.  And also it is not clear that
it is correct or needed in every case.  In particular, 
XML, Info, Plaintext, rawtext, plaintexinfo, textcontent, in 
my opinion, do not need it.  This only leaves HTML and 
DocBook that would need it.
