Problems with ptys

I have ddd installed in an Alpha OSF1 V4.0F (Rev 1229) and I compiled
it with Compaq C++ V6.2-024.
Obviously I am using Compaq's debugger ladebug.
And at first it use to work fine all the time, but now sometimes, when I
launch it using ddd &, ddd's main window
appears, but on the standard error appears a message "cannot open master
pty: No such file or directory".
As far as I know, my OSF1 V4.0F is using SVR4 style ptys, so the slave
ptys are located in /dev/pts/pt*
and the master cloning pty is /dev/ptmx.

This problem appears every now and then so I suppose, ddd or maybe
ladebug is not properly releasing the ptmx,
but the end of the message "No such file or directory", really surprises
me.

I really would appreciate any help.

Thanks DDD Team.
