Source code not visible

When I run ddd and load a program to be debugged, only the first line of the program is visible until I resize the window. If I resize it very carefully I can see all the code. But doing just about anything dialog-box wise makes it go away again. Also, when I can see it, clicking on a word in the source makes that word disappear. 

I am running Slackware 8.1 with kernel 2.4.19 and XFree86 4.2.0.

Any ideas?
