RE: Cygwin build , Previous DLL (1.5.5-1) A few problems running

I have found some trouble when the program is run with 'run in execution
window', nothing seems to get echoed to the window. stderr gets printed
to the bottom frame of the ddd window but stdout seems to vanish into
the aether.

Also, sometimes it seems that I cannot interrupt the target program
using the 'interrupt' button, in fact I can't figure out how to
interrupt it at all when this happens. At least once, somehow,
everything froze up including all tasks outside of Cygwin, I could not
even get the windows Taskmaster to open up to see what exactly was
hogging the resources. Fortunately I did not manage to repeat this.

I have no idea if these are actually ddd issues, or gdb issues, or
Cygwin issues, or Windows issues ... or even issues with the target
program -- just letting you know what I have observed on this platform.

Do you want any more information about this at this time, or just wait
for future Cygwin dll improvements and see if it goes away?

News: Good!

I installed the previous Cygwin DLL (1.5.5-1) and ddd-3.3.9 (cvs head)
works now, I can view source and variables during execution of my own
programs, including array and structures in the graphic display window.

Hi,

Hi,

The problem must be associated to the new Cygwin DLL
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2004-01/msg00796.html
Just wait the next one.

Otherwise, it's good to know that the configure problems have been
overcome.

Regards,

Install problems.

Here are the steps I took:
1) tried make install
2) realize I did not uninstall the 3.3.8 (installed via cygwin setup)
3) make uninstall
4) uninstall package ddd-3.3.8 via cygwin setup
5) accidentally mangle several files in my checked-out cvs of ddd trying
to relocate the install to /usr/
6) check out a whole new version
7) the usual steps of fix PROBLEMS, CVSMake, configure --prefix=/usr ,
make
8) make install
9) ddd

Now ddd itself runs but the gdb cannot communicate with it.
$ ddd
gdb: access /dev/tty1: No such file or directory
gdb: cannot open master pty: No such file or directory
gdb: communication setup failed

I am pretty sure this did not happen before (I was running
/usr/src/ddd-cvs/ddd/ddd.exe without 'installing' , but the other
installation was in place) I could have a look at what startup and
resource files differ in the cygwin package, unless you or someone
recognizes exactly what is wrong. It seems like it must be something
pretty obvious to do with configuring the link between gdb and ddd ..
sorry I am not familiar with how that works normally, usually it just
works great without any intervention from me.

(that's supposed to be a compliment)

In good news, it works even without using the Cygwin X server running ;
I also have Exceed and issuing ddd -display localhost:0.0 pops up the
fully functional ddd window via Exceed. (still the same gdb messages
except /dev/tty0 mentioned instead of /dev/tty1 )
