I am having a problem with ddd 3.3.11 (i686-apple-darwin8.10.1) in that it seems to be able to "unable to parse pathname-substitution" on my Mac , even on the simplest "hello world" program.

When I load a simple program, the source code for main does appear, but if I set a break point and run the code, I get the following message.

Breakpoint 1, main (argc=1, argv=0xbfffe700) at foo.c:54
unable to parse pathname-substitutions

In addition, if I go to the file menu and try to open a file, I get a similar message in the Sources box.

gdb does not seem to have a similar problem, so I assume the problem is connected to ddd. The problem is new, in the sense that ddd was working previously, so I'm suspicious something has changed with my environment.
However, I reinstalled ddd (using Fink commander) and this did help.

I am suspicious of the shared libraries, as I have occassionally had problems with this in the past, but they looked normal to me:

otool -L /sw/bin/ddd
/sw/bin/ddd:
/sw/lib/libXm.2.dylib (compatibility version 3.0.0, current version 3.1.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXaw.7.dylib (compatibility version 7.0.0, current version 7.0.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0, current version 6.2.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0, current version 6.0.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.4.dylib (compatibility version 4.11.0, current version 4.11.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXp.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0, current version 6.2.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.4.0, current version 6.4.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0, current version 6.0.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.3.0, current version 6.3.0) /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.dylib (compatibility version 6.2.0, current version 6.2.0) /sw/lib/ncurses/libncurses.5.dylib (compatibility version 5.0.0, current version 5.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 88.3.9) /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib (compatibility version 7.0.0, current version 7.4.0) /usr/lib/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0)

I noticed in the archive some discussion of this problem, but I never saw a resolution in that case.

Thanks,
Knox Long
