Well, yes. Now that I have worked a bit with simulations I have come
to this conclusion: an integrated simulator is _not_ suitable for
all simulations. It is nice for simulating many things, but a good
external command line based simulator is necessary as well. With
that I can write a program in C to create the excitations into the
circuit, and run big simulations easily in batch.

There are exactly two problems with the internal ALS simulator:
first, it's awfully slow, 1000 times slower than IRSIM. Second,
it can't simulate transmission gates at all. I take it that you
haven't written the ALS code and probably don't understand it
perfectly. I looked into the code and it looks like it would
be sophisticated enough to really simulate the transmission gates.
I suspect that there's actually a bug that stops it from working.
Has it ever worked?

However, I'll be happy to test the integrated IRSIM if you wish.

(Thanks for your answer wrt. Magic, I'll go a bit deeper into
that and then comment more if necessary)
