Yaesu just submitted for FCC approval a new quad-band handheld transceiver to replace the VX-5. specs and photos:

while externally programmable, it's not a true SDR. but it's a form factor many of us would like to see a SDR in eventually.

I just bought one of these today.  Looks like it has a "conventional"
(or should I say "legacy" :-) RF and baseband, while using a
microcontroller and diode switches for all the control/display, etc.
