Depends on whether you are willing to pay something for the database.
Oracle and Sybase work perfectly on Linux. FrontBase too.
GDL adaptors for all of these DBs are already available.
Otherwise I would suggest PostgreSQL before MySQL as a free database.
PostgreSQL also has an adaptor available (I don't think that this is the
case for MySQL).
