Hi Helge,
Thats the second vote for SuSE already! (I think I see a pattern! )

As far a I know, oracle is also free for developers isn't it?
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/content.html
what is a GDL Adaptor (the GNUstep variant of an EOFAdaptor?)
I also got another vote for FrontBase, which claims to be the only DB
running on Mac OS X Server
I did find MySQLAdaptor-source browsing through the GNUstep Pages:
http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/gnustep/gnustep/dev-libs/db/eoadaptors/MySQL/
eventhough I have no idea in which state it is.
I just tought that the GNU "OpenSource" community generally supported each
others projects. Besides the fact, that if something doesn't work I like
the idea of at least beeing able to look in the source code to see why.
(That is what I am missing most using OPENSTEP!)
Thanx for the vote though, that is exactly the kind of feedback I was
looking for.
Later,
Dave

SuSE Linux of course ;-)

Depends on whether you are willing to pay something for the database.
Oracle and Sybase work perfectly on Linux. FrontBase too.
GDL adaptors for all of these DBs are already available.
Otherwise I would suggest PostgreSQL before MySQL as a free database.
PostgreSQL also has an adaptor available (I don't think that this is the
case for MySQL).
Greetings
Helge
