I looked at GNUstep but can't figure out how to make it all work.Just to clarify my statement above, I installed GNUmake, and then proceeded to install GNUbase. When I do a ./configure on GNUbase, it says, sorry - you must first run the GNUstep initialization script! What initialization script? There's NO MENTION of it in the INSTALL file, and I can't find one anywhere. It gives me no options but to punt. Talk about frustrating! I wonder how many people give up trying to use GNUstep at this point ...
Hmm ... I think everything refers you to the GNUstep-HOWTO, and the detail
is all in there.Perhaps all the other files should have their entire content replaced by an instruction to read the GNUstep-HOWTO, rather than just saying you should
read it amidst other information ... that would avoid confusion. Anyway, you need to do '. /usr/GNUstep/System/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh' (or an alternative path to where the gnustep make package was installed,if you put it in a non-standard location) before doing *anything* beyond the
install of the make package.
