My only concern is that when mascot is in a small icon,
people may not be able to tell the exact species.
Therefore, a mascot should have a distinguish shape.
Otherwise, tiger may look like lion,
komodo dragon may look like gecko. :)

What about a komodo dragon? (http://www.no-pest.com/KomodoDragon.htm)

I've been to Komodo, Rinca and Flores, and they are really impressive
(as OpenStep/GNUstep is, just in a slightly other way).

Some things GNUstep and a komodo has in common:

- NOT slow
- endangered
- opportunistic (perdator)
- independend (parents don't care about the offspring)
- flexible (komodos can climb trees and are good swimmers)
- deadly effective ;)

(BTW, before you enter Komodo you have to sign a letter that states you
are sole responsible for your actions. You also have to specify
the persons they are going to contact in the case you've been bitten,
since the komodo mouth contains toxic bacteria that fester on wounds and
so the bite is often lethal within a few days if untreated.)
