Now I see the point. Yes, that might be a good idea. Shouldn't it work in that way on DOS/Windows too? So (file-relative-name "c:/file" "d:/dir/) returns "../../c:/file"? We could add a parameter to file-relative-name specifying whether to map into oneMaybe RMS point is that "../../dir/file" *should* make sense and that it's a bug if Emacs does not handle it properly.
