Prefix the regexp with "\\(^\\|[^\\]\\)\\(\\\\\\\\\\)*".  The (match-end) of
this regexp is guaranteed to not be preceded by an odd number
of backspashes.

You can find this regexp used by various major modes for comment-start-skip.
