Well, since it got printed to *Messages*, it must have gotten printed
in the echo area for some small fraction of a second.  So the real
question is:

How do we execute this macro in such a way that we are actually able
to _notice_ that "This is the message" got printed in the echo area?

I have a reasonably fast computer.  Who knows, maybe it actually works
on a very slow computer.
