Which is a nuisance.

Well, one possibility would be to have a toggle "Make Changes persist"
that defaults to on, except when the actual value and the saved value
differ.  There would be no explicit button to set or save changes.
Something like that.

However, I think that this topic is taking more attention than it
would warrant at this point of time.  We should just get something
reasonable done and move on.  After the release, it might make sense
for one or two volunteers to discuss and implement a consistent and
working Customize interface.
