    Yes, perhaps LCD displays are the reason.  Can people please try and
    report the results?

On a display that is 304 mm wide,

    (display-mm-width)  --> 542

However, my resolution is ~135 dots/in or ~5.3 dots/mm.  (My display
is 1600 dots wide.)

Were I to have a resolution of 75 dots/in or ~2.95 dots/mm then a
display width of 542 would give me very nearly 1600 dots, which is how
many on my display.
