Hmm. You argued that the developer might not notice that his package
requires things which he, locally, has installed but which aren't
available by default. I presented the way Fedora handles the same
problem for rpm-Packages.
The developer says "dear build system, I think I in my package humba, I
only use package foo, bar and baz". The build system installs foo, bar
and baz in *a clean environment outside of the developers workspace*
(e.g. a fresh CVS checkout of Emacs), tries to build humba there and
reports success or failure.
Maybe I'm stilling missing your point, I just wanted to make sure you
don't miss mine ;-)

Did you ever realize how much text fits in eighty columns? If you now consider
that a signature usually consists of up to four lines, this gives you enough
space to spread a tremendous amount of information with your messages. So seize
this opportunity and don't waste your signature with bullshit nobody will read.
