I think it would have some similar problems.  If you rely on it in anything, 
what happens when you start dealing with a branch on savannah, or someone's 
published branch based on one of the savannah versions?  And, perhaps worse, if 
you stick bzr commands into the build process to get the number, what if 
someone's using a different VCS locally (and it seems like most of the popular 
DVCSes these days can import/export in various combinations, so this isn't at 
all hard to imagine) and thus there's no bzr info to be had?
