Perhaps, but some features such as cross-manual references should be a
requirement, IMO.

(This discussion seems a bit surreal to me.  It sounds like: “our system
has all the features we need, but it’s ‘archaic’; so let’s drop a few
features so we can use something ‘modern’.”)
