I agree with you.  As background information, these have been ported in
conjunction with the native-comp branch and aim at benchmarking Elisp as
a stand-alone language.  Going forward we may imagine replacing portions
of Emacs C code with compiled Elisp and these small benchmarks could
become more representative of this kind of activity.
