To replace an established function name is something we do only with
great caution. First we define the new name. Later we deprecate the
old name. Later we make a warning when it is used. A few years after
that, we could delete it, perhaps. It takes many years.
We can do this when the new name is clearly an improvement.
We can also add new aliases without replacing the old name. But we
should not do that merely because someone asks for another name.
