Cannot enable what?
Font-lock and indentation based on those capabilities, for one.
Neither is part of the LSP protocol, so Eglot doesn't do this (yet).
LSP at the moment provides more "advances" features: code completion,
navigation and documentation. In short, it's a replacement for etags and
the manual. For all supported languages.
For these two features in particular, we might want to pick a TreeSitter
based solution anyway, because that one at least could allow us to
continue writing grammars in Emacs, instead of entirely relying on
external programs to keep up-to-date and complete grammars.
Eglot is in ELPA. Have you tried it?
No. Not enough time, sorry.
It shouldn't take a lot of time. There's no hurry, though.
None of these discussions say "oh, if only Eglot was in the core instead
of GNU ELPA, that would solve my problems". I haven't seen a single
opinion like that.
I said nothing about moving Eglot to the core. It was João, not
myself. I'd be happy if we could have these capabilities that
depended on Eglot (or any other package, really) being installed. We
could figure out the rest later.
Eglot is as feature-rich now when installed as a package as it could be,
I think. And it's worth taking a look.
