I very much doubt that icomplete will do it, because it goes against
its design principles.

Granted, I do see it, I just think that this is not the Emacs
look-and-feel I'm accustomed to, this is utterly different.  If you
are lobbying for this to become the default, be prepared for an uphill
battle, because it calls for a totally different typing methods, and I
expect many old-timers to dislike the difference.
