I use master, so it looks like guess I have not done that recently.
I have a memory of doing it in the past.

Since there is no point in a search string, how does C-u C-y in search
differ from plain C-y?  If it is an alias, then currently it serves no
purpose, so why not put it back to what it used to be (exit search
then C-u C-y)?
