This is going to be a major pain in the neck to untangle from a future
configure-os.ac, so I suggest setting several weeks aside before you
attempt that.

One major problem will be the inability to find obscure systems
(i.e. Solaris 10, but with missing XkbFreeNames) on which the resulting
changes can be tested.
