Hi, Steve,
I don't see this.
I downloaded freefont-ttf-20090104.tar.gz from
http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/freefont/, unpacked it,
and opened FreeSerif.ttf using a FontForge of 29 April '08.
Both the left and right half circles (U+02BE and U+02BF) lie between
500 and 720.
A search of the font for points above 1600 yielded nothing.
What are we doing differently?
