Using oneper adds about a 50% hit on compile times on my Linux box. On
bluemountain, in the past it has been basically intolerable.

Are you saying that the prelinker bug does not exist for 4.0e if you use
--oneper or that by using oneper, it fixes the problem of multiple symbol
warnings. I suspect the latter.

Anyway, for me on my new laptop, we are basically talking about intolerable
compile times - it takes 7-8 hours to build a debug copy of everything from
scratch and so you can see my reluctance to make that time 50% longer.
Things are exacerbated with this prelinker bug because several files are
being recompiled more than once by the prelinker and they tend to be the
largest ones that take the longest to recompile. Things are also exacerbated
by the problems in Pooma 2 which are keeping me from being able to explicitly
instantiate all the Pooma functions. Hopefully Scott is making some progress
on this.
