Indeed the corresponding commit seems simple enough:

It is interesting to note (and to deplore) that Mapscript seems to be SGSL and
MapScript (with a capital second S) the corresponding USL implementation.
So by using this information and the changelog of MapEdit.cpp:

Added a command line switch to choose the two modes should not be difficult,
and
is the best way to go.
If I had some hours to kill, I would do it, but I do not have them, at least
not until the week-end.
