Irda with inpspiron 8000 and Nokia 8210

Hi all, 

i want to connect my Nokia 8210 with a Dell Inspiron 8000 over Irda, but
i can't get it working :/ 

Here is my setup: 

Nokia 8210 V5.25 20-09-00 NSM-3 

Debian woody with self-compiled kernel 2.4.19 and gnokii 0.4.3 from 
http://freesoftware.fsf.org/download/gnokii/

I ran all the commands as root in order to prevent permission problems.
Any hints ? I have no ideas :/
