heya pawel,

i checked on the list archives cos i'm subscribed but receive-post is
disabled. sorry, i forgot to mention "please cc me on responses".

okay.

_thank you_ for the hack-patch to add dial-pad capability!

so - answering bits-and-pieces:

* yes the phone is basically a combination of any (generic) mobile phone
device, with a serial cable (that's actually on the PCB instead of
wire) and a PDA which is capable of running linux.

it (only) therefore contains _two_ ARM processors: one a
400mhz Intel PXA 263 to do the PDA-side; the other is a
110mhz (or so) ARM7 (or so) in a metallic shielded "black" box.

the upshot of it is this: xgnokii just... _works_.

* i didn't quite grok xgnokii or its capabilities at the time i wrote
the initial email, so yes, i am now understanding that i would need
to do "polling" as you outline - one query per second to see if
there's an incoming phone call *sigh*...

* screenshots, screenshots :) hmmm.... a photograph would say a bit
more, because i'm running via an ssh link (over USB) to the phone,
and running xgnokii back to my laptop's x-server.

that having been said, seen one PDA running gpe/familiar, you've
seen'em'all - but i know what you mean. i'll see what i can do, next
  time i boot it up.

* no, there isn't a keyboard - or, more specifically, the PDA has a
touchscreen. the "keyboard" - there are two: there's an on-screen PDA
touchscreen keyboard, where the keys are _tiny_ - about 3mm square.

there's a "pull-out" keyboard, where again the keys are tiny - about
  4mm square.

no, what's needed is _big_ on-screen buttons (where big
is relatively-speaking about 15mm or so on a side (bearing
  in mind that this is a 320x480 screen that's 3.5in x 4.5in
approx) that large fumbling thumbs can press without missing
or hitting one of the other keys.

so - thank you for that hack-patch :)
