BTW, I'd like to emphasize that the `patch freshness' issue is a _major_
point -- one of the reasons I don't like going through Alan or whoever
(though it's a good way to get patches applied) is that it delays merging
into Linus's tree considerably; by the time my patch gets merged, I've
already fixed N bugs in whatever I sent.  That means that Linus's next kernel
release contains an out-of-date version of my patch, and it's pain to merge
it with my current sources.

A system (such as has been suggested) where one sends merge requests instead
of patches would be a big improvement over this.
