I use tcsh interactively and end up doing this kind of stuff a bit. I get to specify whether I want the matching to occur locally or remotely (as opposed to hoping it doesn't occur locally). I don't like rules with exceptions, so I do things one way when I want local expansion, and another way when I want remote expansion.
