There seems little reason to not allow a patchlevel; if a version is
specified, it makes sense to pick the latest revision indicated by the
in-tree patch-logs (that way after merging in new changes from your
parent, you could just do `commit --base PARENT-VERSION' to
automatically use the just-merged changes as your base).
