They were supposed to.  That was one of the major reasons for the
release.  I'll talk to the GNU GS maintainer again.  I already reported
that problem for an 8.71 pretest :(.

Ken freed every file I/we asked him to.  If others remain nonfree, I
could pester him some more.  But instead of comparing against GNU GS,
how about comparing against Adobe?  I sent those url's earlier.  Or if
that's too onerous, I maintain a directory of the freed files on CTAN:
