This error means that the input is for lilypond version 1.3.4.  Your
version of lilypond can only process versions 1.3.42 -- 1.3.46.  You
may try using convert-ly(.py) to upgrade the .ly file.

That midi2ly generates old .ly files is a bug, but you're using an old
version of lilypond.  This should all be fixed in 1.4.0:

Yes, that's what the version number is for: to indicate the version of
