Thanks Reinhard. I was using python-wxgtk2.8 and it wouldn't work with the wx28 stipulated on the command line.

The gtk2 driver only allows for absolute (Char based) positioning.
Please try the wx26 User Interface Driver (by setting defaultUI=wx26 in
gnue.conf). In Ubuntu, this requires the python-wxgtk2.6 package to be
installed.
