That's a bit historical. The original purpose of the pattern was to
avoid the situation where a hane allows the opponent to kill while
descending straight to the edge lives. The pattern existed well before
the owl code was implemented and at some time the "life" aspect was
reduced to a d classification. It's probably not really needed now but
on the other hand it shouldn't hurt either, if only the safety
estimation were more reliable.
