don't worry, Andreas post is useful for the exact same reason
yours is useful and appreciated - to document things that are
to be considered starting from the point where your posting
stops in a timely fashion. Other than that we all need to take
a step back at times, get off the This-Is-The-Right-Thing-
To-Do-track, and marvel at the bigger picture. Which your post
initiated so that's good.

Andreas was probably just wondering why we didn't try first to
get the "recommended" install up to snuff. I think it also has
to do with the fact that most people simply don't know about
the Debian packages.

I would encourage any of those people to speak up on or off
list.

Which is the reason I think Wiki()ing it is useful - even if
we loose some of the fancier formatting - eg. does it really
matter if we have shaded-in-gray boxes !?! I for one don't
even see them as I am browsing with w3m. I prefer updated,
say, ASCII READMEs over outdated pretty PDFs any day. I
didn't fully realize this previously, though. My fault.
