A praxis would say

apt-get install drugref-server
apt-get install drugref-gui

$> df-upgrade_database
$> df-update_data_from_the_web

This would give the praxis the latest packaged data.

- drugref-server and drugref-gui would be exactly like gnumed-server and
gnumed-client

- drugref-gui could be freediams

- in fact, freediams, could be both in one (and currently is)

- df-upgrade_database would apply changes to the database structure

- df-update_data_from_the_web could be run any time (even by
cron) and check for new data packages available from
  http://www.drugref.org/downloads/data/, download those and
install them, such data packages would be prepared from
other sources on the web by someone of the drugref team

The GNUmed client could either

- start df-gui (freediams) with appropriate command line
arguments just as we do now with other applications/tools

- access a drugref API directly whether that be a web server
(such as Oscar has) or XML-RPC (such as Horst initially wanted)
or command line programs without a UI

Does that make things more clear ?

BUT - as I have said repeatedly in the past - this is a
WHOLE NEW PROJECT to be done by someone else. I am currently
hoping to make FreeDiams interested in taking baby steps
towards becoming that.

The fame would be immortal.
