What you could do is:
- fork the gpsd repository into your own account
- check if the CI is happily configured, normally the defaults should
just work fine.
- commit until you and the CI of your fork are happy.
- either create a MR in gitlab or just push to the real gpsd repository.
That way you can work on your code without having the fer to break
things. And you can mess with the regression tests until they are happy
