Today's Bison handles this gracefully.
/tmp % LC_ALL=C bis =(:) nostromo Err 1
/tmp/zshtFaQSQ:1: fatal error: no input grammar
I have no idea whether you have a platform dependent problem, or
you're just using too old a Bison.
