It sounds like you want some of the benefits of CUA-mode without the
C-c C-x C-v cut/copy/paste (at least sometimes). If you can live
without them completely, there is a way within the newest versions of
CUA-mode to turn those keys off completely (I think; I don't use the
package, I just remember reading about it) or you can use my cua-lite
package:
