My own .emacs file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\manselton\ in Win XP The hidden folder Application Data is located at C:\Documents and Settings\manselton\Application Data Environmental variables are created and stored in Start - Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environmental Variables Assuming Win7 follows the same pattern.
