Hi,
i've installed gift from cvs on debian without too many probelms, i used
cpan to solve perl packages dependencies and gift compiled without
critical errors.
i've made some tests creating a small collection and i'm using the php
frontend to place queries and so on, so far everything is fine.
- config questions -
1.
I've got a couple of questions concerning the update of existing
collections.
When i launch a gift-add-collection command i get the following messages
on stderr :
"File /home/gift/.gift-add-collection could not be opened (No such file
or directory), so I won't use it"
i guess it's not really a problem, if it is please let me know what
should be present in "$HOME/.gift-add-collection"
Then when the add-collection finishes i get the following output :
####

consistency
The check was successful
ERROR in generating inverted fileCAcIFFileSystem::~CAcIFFileSystem() called

not sure what it means or even if the xml parser error is important or
not..
2.
Then checking my collection's url2fts.xml file i've noticed that the
feature-file paths have double slashes in them, like that :
feature-file-name="/home/gift/gift-indexing-data/collection1//some/pathto/the/picture_jpg.fts"
it doesn't seem to trouble the gift server at all but well i don't think
it should be tolerated.
I'm not using any trailing slashes inside my gift-add-collection command
and i define almost all the parameters in it
- usage question -
1.
I understand the collection is the basic unit that makes a group of
pictures ready for searches but i was wondering if there's any ways to
narrow down a search inside a collection based on the picture path, like
this :
let's say the "collection1" pictures are located inside
/home/gift/collection1/
in collection1 i have several paths that already group the pictures in
some ways, like :
/home/gift/collection1/animals/
/home/gift/collection1/objects/
/home/gift/collection1/persons/
..
could i place a query on "collection1" in order to find matches only
inside /animals/ or /objects/ and so on.. ?
2.
As i plan to use the collection for an already existing web gallery i
don't really need the "gift webspace" and especially gift thumbnails.
If there's a way to disable thumbnails in gift processing please let me
know but as i believe it's necessary for gift to have them it won't
matter if it has to create and store them localy.
What i'm more insterested in is to modify the way
"gift-add-collection.pl" handles thumbnails names and to i'd like to
alter its default hardcoded "_thumbnails" postfix so i can make it
produce names that matches my existing gallery thumbnails urls.
So i was wondering if making that kind of modifications to the
"gift-add-collection.pl" script would cause problems with other gift
processing, searches and so on..
I guess not but asking the question could save me some time if it's not
something that can so easily be modified..
thx for any help and answers you can provide
besides that gift seems to work damn fine, very nice peace of software !
