I tried the patch on the RadHat machine as a dry-run. I got the following 
results:


# patch  -b  --dry-run  --verbose   lib/ascend.c  -i patch.txt
Hmm...  Looks like a unified diff to me...
The text leading up to this was:

This is a bug in generic filter handling that appeared due to my 
misreading
the Ascend manual :^) Please find attached a patch that fixes it.
