tar archieved make

Hi,

I have been trying to install gnu 'gzip' on my Unix work station. I
can't manage it since gzip needs 'make' to install gzip. I am trying to
download 'gnu make' to compile gzip files, but it is also gzipped! Is it
possible to have gnu 'make' archieved only in 'tar' or would you
reccommend any other link to obtain free 'make' program archieved in
'tar'?
