i tried that in two locations and get the same error.  i tried right
before @dircategory and right after @titlepage.  where exactly should
i put the commands?

however, the texinfo manual also suggests an optional COPYING node
right after the top node and before the intro.  i guess i'm confusing
two things: the copyright information and the copying rights /
warranty / etc.  i was considering them the same information i wanted
to convey.
