I am not sure what you mean here.  Let me clarify the situation:

 - There is a working pthread implementation for the Hurd on L4.
 - There is not a working pthread implementation for the Hurd on Mach.
 - There would need to be a lot of convincing to get me to write a
   pthread implementation for Mach.
 - Changing the cthread calls to pthread calls is far easier than
   writing a compatibility layer.
