If I understand correctly, Maildir is very similar to nnml.  (nnml may
even be a special case of Maildir.)  The training shell scripts that
come with gnus-ifile are specifically designed around nnml, so if
you're working on putting something together, you might take a look at
them, as they might have helpful clues about how to do things.
