WinCvs : problems with binaries

Anyone have any ideas why wincvs doesn't always recognise binaries,
specifically jpgs & gifs. Quite often they are misread as being standard
files?

Also is there any way of forcing wincvs to recognise these?

btw I am currently using 1.2, although this same problem appeared in earlier
versions.
